Pro Bono Publico
The musum is currently undergoing renovation and will be open from April, 2011.
The automobile and India , inseparable for a century , have been linked together in a historical experience that has led to the creation of Pro Bono Publico – India’s first and most interesting museum for vintage and classic cars open to the public.
Pro Bono Publico, the Titus & Co. Museum for vintage & classic cars has been founded on a platform of passion for vintage and classic cars and a keenness to share this fervour with enthusiast like you. It is only with ideas and efforts towards them that concepts of such capacity see the light of day. While previous generations have initiated the preservations of buildings, music, paintings, dance and literature, we at Titus & Co. feel a growing urge for the restoration and preservation of vintage and classic cars, an important part of our heritage. The 1936 Buick series 90, Model 90L on the cover page is an inspiration for us. These cars are not just collectibles; they are reminders of man’s engineering genius, to be preserved for generations to come. Our objective is to educate and entertain visitors on these magnificent mechanical works of art and instill the passion and enthusiasm in our guests that we feel for these cars.
Covering an area of almost 6000sq. feet, the Museum exhibits a ‘living’ collection of twenty vintage and classic cars manufactured over forty years between 1927 and 1969 including a rare Minerva Type AL and several historic Cadillacs, Buicks, Chevrolets, Dodges, Fords and Austins. The display will be enlarged and upgraded over the coming years. Vintage and classic auto parts, a collection of books and manuals and related memorabilia are also exhibited.
Designed by Samidha Thakral, the Museum interior is pillarless allowing convenient movement for cars and guests as also being a visual delight. Visitors are invited to walk through, not by, the collection and experience living history. Pro Bono Publico is more than a mere display of automobiles. It is a center for people of all ages to relive special movements of the past or make new discoveries. For many of us, these cars tell a story of emotion and excitement. While visiting the museum you may encounter a child fascinated by her first glance at an Austin or see a lady swoon as she passes a 1957 Chevy! Several cars exhibited here belonged to Maharajahs, Zemindars, celebrities and some have featured in period Bollywood films. Undoubtedly, you will have your own unique reaction to each display.
